UAE Extends Visa-On-Arrival Service to Indian Nationals from Six Additional Countries

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has recently announced an expansion of its visa-on-arrival programme for Indian nationals, allowing more travellers with valid visas, residence permits, or Green Cards from additional countries to access this facility. This move is set to benefit Indian passport holders looking to visit the UAE for tourism, business, or other purposes.

Expansion of Eligibility Criteria

Previously, Indian nationals holding valid documentation from the United States, European Union member states, and the United Kingdom were eligible for the visa-on-arrival facility in the UAE. With the recent expansion, Indian travellers with valid visas, residence permits, or Green Cards from Singapore, Japan, South Korea, Australia, New Zealand, and Canada are now included in the eligibility list.

To qualify for the programme, Indian nationals must hold a valid ordinary passport with at least six months validity from the date of arrival in the UAE. They should also possess a valid visa, residence permit, or Green Card from any of the eligible countries on the list. Upon meeting these requirements, individuals will be required to pay the visa fee upon arrival at UAE immigration checkpoints.

Visa Fees and Categories

The UAE has introduced three categories for eligible Indian travellers, each with a nominal visa fee. For a 4-day visa, travellers will need to pay Dh100 (approx. Rs 2,270), while a 14-day extension will cost Dh250 (approx. Rs 5,670). Additionally, there is a 60-day visa option, which also requires a fee of Dh250 (approx. Rs 5,670).

Motive Behind the Initiative

Major General Suhail Saeed Al Khaili, the Director General of UAE’s Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs, and Port Security, explained that the decision to grant visas on arrival to Indian nationals from additional countries is in line with the long-term strategic partnership between Abu Dhabi and New Delhi. The initiative aims to facilitate smoother travel for Indian citizens, providing them and their families with new opportunities to explore life, residency, and employment prospects in the UAE.

Furthermore, the initiative is expected to attract top global talent and entrepreneurs to the UAE, strengthening its position as a global financial, tourism, and economic hub. By allowing Indian travellers to experience the UAE’s world-class tourism, economic landscape, and dynamic business environment, the country hopes to enhance bilateral relations and promote cultural exchange between India and the UAE.

Overall, the expansion of the UAE’s visa-on-arrival programme for Indian nationals reflects the country’s commitment to promoting international travel and fostering closer ties with key global partners. This initiative is set to benefit Indian travellers seeking to visit the UAE for various purposes, contributing to the growth and development of both countries.
