Union Minister Speaks to NDTV Following BJP’s Victory in Delhi

Former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) emerged victorious in the Punjab election of 2022, securing a significant win in the state. The election results saw a shift in power dynamics, with the BJP winning 48 out of the 70 seats in the Delhi assembly, while the AAP managed to secure 22 seats. This marked a noticeable decrease in the AAP’s previous dominance in the region but still positioned them as a substantial opposition force. On the other hand, the Congress party failed to secure any seats for the third consecutive time.

Continuation of AAP Programs by BJP

During the election campaign, the BJP promised to continue the programs initiated by the AAP government in Delhi if they were to win the election. This assurance was aimed at maintaining the ongoing schemes and projects that had been implemented by the AAP. However, Hardeep Singh Puri, a senior BJP leader, clarified that while the existing schemes would be upheld, it did not mean that the party would refrain from introducing new initiatives.

Puri emphasized that there was a fundamental difference between the BJP’s approach to governance and the AAP’s programs. He stated, “As a central government, if we promise a scheme, we will deliver on that scheme. We had to assure that the existing programs would continue to prevent any distortion of the election process for a third mandate.” Puri highlighted the commitment to maintaining the services provided in the world-class mohalla clinics established by the AAP while also emphasizing the BJP’s focus on eliminating corruption.

Future Leadership and Development Plans

Parvesh Verma, the BJP candidate who defeated Arvind Kejriwal in the election, expressed gratitude to the voters for their support and trust. He acknowledged the victory as a testament to the people of Delhi choosing truth, governance, and development over deception and gimmicks. Verma attributed the success to the strong leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and BJP President JP Nadda.

Verma assured that under the guidance of the party leadership, efforts would be made to bring about significant changes and development in Delhi. The BJP’s focus on delivering effective governance and addressing key issues facing the region was reiterated as they prepared to assume power in the state. The upcoming decisions regarding the appointment of the next Chief Minister would be determined by the party leadership to ensure a smooth transition and continuity of governance.

Overall, the outcome of the Punjab election marked a significant political shift in the region, with the AAP’s victory paving the way for new developments and initiatives under the BJP’s leadership. The future trajectory of governance in Delhi would be shaped by the collaborative efforts of the elected representatives and the party’s commitment to fulfilling the promises made to the electorate.
