Urooj Mumtaz Blames Mohammad Rizwan for Pakistan’s Loss to India

Urooj Mumtaz Criticizes Mohammad Rizwan for Slow Batting

Former Pakistan women’s captain Urooj Mumtaz did not mince her words when she criticized Pakistan’s skipper Mohammad Rizwan for his slow batting during the recent Champions Trophy clash against India. Despite making 46 runs, Rizwan took 77 balls to reach that score, playing 29 dot balls in the process. This slow batting in the middle overs phase ultimately led to Pakistan’s defeat by six wickets.

Middle Overs Slowdown

The middle overs slowdown for Pakistan started right after the power-play ended, with their overall dot ball percentage reaching 48 percent. Urooj Mumtaz highlighted the fact that Rizwan’s inability to rotate strike and his tendency to accumulate too many dot balls put pressure on the team and especially on his batting partner, Saud Shakeel.

Pressure on Shakeel

Rizwan and Shakeel had a partnership of 104 runs, but it took them 144 balls to achieve that milestone. Urooj Mumtaz pointed out that Rizwan’s slow batting forced Shakeel, who is not the usual aggressor in the team, to try and break free under pressure.

Captain’s Responsibility

As the captain of the team, Urooj believed that Rizwan should have shown a more proactive approach in his batting. With key players like Babar Azam out of form and Imam-ul-Haq getting run-out early, the responsibility fell on Rizwan to lead from the front. Urooj emphasized the importance of better strike rotation and applying pressure on the opposition, which she felt Rizwan failed to do effectively.

Conclusion

In conclusion, Urooj Mumtaz’s criticism of Mohammad Rizwan’s batting performance in the match against India highlights the importance of proactive and decisive captaincy in cricket. Rizwan’s slow batting and high number of dot balls not only affected his own performance but also put pressure on his teammates. As Pakistan looks to bounce back from this defeat, all eyes will be on Rizwan to lead the team with a more aggressive and strategic approach in the upcoming matches.
