US-Based Short Seller Hindenburg Research, Known for Targeting Adani Group, Announces Disbandment
Hindenburg Research, the US-based investor who had singled out many corporate entities including the Adani Group, is set to dissolve, founder Nate Anderson has announced.
“I have chosen to dissolve Hindenburg Research. The intention was to wrap up after completing the list of ideas we were focusing on,” he stated in a message on the Hindenburg website.
In a declaration made shortly before Donald Trump assumes office, Anderson has also clarified that there was no specific danger or personal matter prompting this decision to wrap up.
Hindenburg singled out the Adani Group in 2022 with what the group described as “nothing but a falsehood” and were “premeditated assaults on India”. The Supreme Court, too, had given a clean bill of health to the Adani Group with analysts and experts denouncing the
In August 2024, the investor launched another assault on the energy-to-ports conglomerate, which dismissed the allegations as “rehashed claims” that had previously been dismissed.
“Our leadership qualities were never more evident than during the financial market attack in January last year. It was a short-selling attack initiated from overseas. This was not a regular financial attack. It was a double assault aiming at our financial stability and dragging us into a political controversy. It was a deliberate move,” he remarked.
Hindenburg had also targeted Indian markets regulator chief Madhavi Puri Buch and her spouse previously, who labeled it an “effort at damaging one’s reputation”.
The investor’s decision comes after a significant Republican legislator criticized the US government’s choice to investigate billionaire Adani Group firms. In a letter to Attorney General Merric B Garland earlier this month, Congressman Lance Gooden had questioned the necessity of taking such action which could potentially strain America’s global partnerships.
