An Indian family residing in Australia has sparked a conversation online after disclosing their choice to relocate to Bengaluru rather than Gurugram. Posting on Reddit, a family member shared their rationale for opting for Bengaluru as their destination while making the move. “I am contemplating a shift back to India from Australia specifically to Bengaluru. (We migrated from Gurgaon to Australia in July 2022). I am relocating with my family including myself, spouse, and 5-year-old child,” the post stated.

The Reddit user mentioned that the primary motivation for returning to India is to be in proximity to their relatives and friends. The user then outlined reasons for favoring the IT city over Gurugram. “The decision to relocate is due to the diverse and lively community in Bengaluru. Additionally, Indian celebrations such as Diwali, Holi, Rakhi, Dushera, Janamasthmi, Ganesh Chaturthi, and numerous other festivals,” the user penned, expressing willingness to travel from Bengaluru to northern India to visit their families.

Moreover, the Redditor commended the secure communities in Bengaluru, believing that children would encounter daily “challenges” in academics and sports. “We are content with the traffic as we can secure apartments (rental) near office complexes or metro stations,” they remarked, seeking insights from individuals who have moved to the IT city with their children from Western nations.

The Reddit post was shared recently and has since garnered numerous responses. Many urged the family to reassess their decision in choosing Bengaluru, citing factors such as the exorbitant cost of living and chaotic traffic.

“Children’s education is quite costly here unnecessarily. Everything else you mentioned is manageable. If you can find a place close to your family in the north, that would be preferable,” one user commented.

“Noida would be a better alternative for you. The infrastructure is sound, transportation is efficient, relatively more affordable than Bangalore, and you won’t encounter language barriers. The only drawbacks are the weather and air pollution (which is gradually decreasing),” proposed another individual.

“Although this is a viable option, the safest approach would be to relocate to Pune or Ahmedabad. Bangalore is essentially saturated, and the locals are striving to address the current situation,” remarked a third user.

“Frankly, it seems like you are not inclined to reside in Bangalore. You prefer to live in a protected community. I would recommend Delhi, Noida, Mumbai, or Pune. You will easily find employment there. Gated communities are prevalent there as well, and as North Indians, you would encounter more cultural similarities, facilitating both active and passive social lives. Most Northern Indians I know in Bangalore appear dissatisfied with something or the other – cuisine, the necessity to learn Kannada, etc. Classes and activities for children are available almost everywhere in India, so you should be fine,” another individual opined.
