Donald Trump Jr. Issues Warning About Potential Trump VP
Donald Trump Jr. has raised concerns about the possibility of Marco Rubio being chosen as his father Donald Trump’s vice-presidential running mate.
On his podcast, Triggered, Trump Jr. discussed the potential ramifications if Rubio were selected. He suggested that Senate “RINOs” (Republicans in Name Only), a term Trump often uses for GOP members he views as disloyal, might join forces with Democrats to impeach Trump, allowing Rubio to ascend to the presidency.
“I have a good relationship with Marco, but the truth is, having someone more established in there could be risky. Wouldn’t the Senate RINOs love that?” he said. “As soon as my father’s hand lifts off the Bible after the swearing-in, they’d be shouting, ‘Impeachment!’ There’s an argument for having someone outside the establishment to protect against that.”
Although Rubio’s political career started before Trump’s MAGA movement, he secured his Florida Senate seat in 2010 as part of the fiscally conservative Tea Party movement, which opposed the Republican establishment at the time.
Rubio competed against Trump in the 2016 Republican Primary but later endorsed Trump after dropping out. He retained his Senate seat in that election and was not among the seven Republican senators who voted to convict Trump during his second impeachment trial.
In recent years, Rubio has aligned himself with several of Trump’s key political stances. He has suggested that the 2024 election might be contested if perceived as “unfair,” claimed that Trump’s legal troubles in New York were due to a biased prosecutor, and, despite his Catholic pro-life views, agreed with Trump that a federal abortion ban should be removed from the Republican platform.
Speculation abounds about who will join Trump on the ticket in November, with an announcement expected before the Republican National Convention next Monday.
Rubio is one of several prominent conservatives being considered, alongside Senators Tim Scott of South Carolina, J.D. Vance of Ohio, Tom Cotton of Arkansas, North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum, New York Representative Elise Stefanik, and former presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy.
Trump hinted to Fox News’ Sean Hannity that his choice “will be very, very good,” emphasizing the need for someone capable of doing an excellent job as president and helping secure re-election.
