In a historic move for college football, six-time Super Bowl champion Bill Belichick has been named the head football coach at the University of North Carolina. Belichick, 72, agreed to a five-year contract with North Carolina, pending approval by the university’s board of trustees. Steve Belichick served as an assistant coach for North Carolina from 1953 to 1955. “I grew up around college football with my dad and treasured those times,” Belichick said. “I have always wanted to coach in college and now look forward to building the football program in Chapel Hill.”
The Transition from NFL to College Football
After parting ways with the New England Patriots in 2023, Belichick is stepping into a program that hasn’t won an ACC title since 1980. Known for his disciplined coaching style, Belichick brings unmatched expertise, with an NFL record of 333 wins and eight Super Bowl titles (six as a head coach and two as an assistant).
