Jalen Hurts Injury Update: Eagles QB Ruled Out with Concussion During Game Against Commanders
Get the latest updates on Jalen Hurts’ injury and its impact on the Eagles vs. Commanders game.
LANDOVER, Md. – The Philadelphia Eagles faced a significant blow during Sunday’s game against the Washington Commanders when star quarterback Jalen Hurts was ruled out with a concussion. This marks the first time this season that Hurts has missed more than a single play due to injury.
What Happened to Jalen Hurts?
Jalen Hurts sustained the injury during a 13-yard run up the middle, where Commanders linebacker Frankie Luvu delivered a hit to Hurts’ head as he dove toward the 21-yard line. Despite being ordered off the field by the referee, Hurts initially attempted to stay in the game, returning to the huddle. However, he was eventually forced to leave the field for evaluation.
After entering the medical tent, Hurts appeared ready to rejoin his team as the Eagles pushed to Washington’s 3-yard line. However, he unexpectedly returned to the tent and then headed to the locker room. By the second quarter, the Eagles officially ruled Hurts out for the remainder of the game.
Backup QB Steps In
Kenny Pickett stepped up in Hurts’ absence, finishing the drive with a 3-yard touchdown pass to AJ Brown. This early drive gave the Eagles a commanding 14-0 lead with 7:08 remaining in the first quarter.
Additional Injuries for the Eagles
The Eagles’ injury woes didn’t stop with Hurts. Running back Will Shipley was also evaluated for a concussion and ruled out in the second quarter. Defensive injuries further compounded the Eagles’ problems: edge rusher Josh Sweat exited with an ankle injury, leaving his return questionable. Rookie Jalyx Hunt, Nolan Smith, and recent signee Chuck Harris were left to fill the void at edge rusher. Shortly after Sweat’s departure, defensive tackle Jordan Davis appeared to suffer a leg injury with around 4 minutes left in the second quarter. Updates on Davis’ condition are still pending.
Hurts’ History with Injuries
Interestingly, this isn’t Hurts’ first concussion scare against Washington this season. In their earlier matchup on November 14, Hurts underwent evaluation for a concussion but did not miss a single play. Additionally, Hurts has been managing a broken left finger, further adding to his physical challenges this season.
What’s Next for the Eagles?
The Eagles’ coaching staff and medical team will likely provide more updates on Hurts’ status in the coming days. With the playoffs approaching, the team will be cautious in managing their star quarterback’s recovery. Fans and analysts alike will be watching closely to see how the Eagles adjust their game plan if Hurts has to miss further time.
