Texas Opens New State Office in Taiwan, Announces Abbott
Governor Greg Abbott Announces Opening of State of Texas Taiwan Office to Boost Economic and Cultural Ties
Texas Governor Greg Abbott announced on Sunday that the state will open a State of Texas Taiwan Office to strengthen economic and cultural cooperation between Texas and Taiwan. This initiative aims to promote increased trade, investment, and collaboration, as highlighted in a recent news release.
The announcement took place during a press event in Taipei, part of Governor Abbott’s three-nation economic development mission, which includes visits to Taiwan, South Korea, and Japan. While Governor Abbott is abroad, Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick is acting as governor and overseeing preparations for Hurricane Beryl. The hurricane is anticipated to make landfall in northern Mexico and South Texas late Sunday into early Monday.
In a significant move prior to Sunday’s announcement, Governor Abbott and Taiwan’s Minister of Economic Affairs, Jyh-Huei Kuo, signed an Economic Development Statement of Intent. This agreement is designed to foster investment, create jobs, and boost trade operations between Texas and Taiwan.
The upcoming State of Texas Taiwan Office will be housed within the Office of the Governor and operate under the Texas Economic Development & Tourism Office, according to the news release.
“Texas and Taiwan are crucial economic partners committed to pioneering future innovations,” said Governor Abbott in the release. “Today, I am announcing two key initiatives that will strengthen our economic relationship and promote unprecedented prosperity for both our peoples. These initiatives—a new economic agreement and the establishment of a State of Texas Taiwan Office—will reinforce the economic and cultural bonds between Texas and Taiwan. By working together, we will ensure our citizens have the freedom and opportunity to thrive in the dynamic economies of the 21st century.”
This new office is a strategic step to further solidify Texas’s global presence and foster long-term economic growth and cultural exchange with Taiwan.
