Attention Walmart Shoppers: Claim Your Share of a $45 Million Settlement!

If you’ve bought specific groceries at Walmart over the past five years, you could be eligible for a refund.

For those who purchased certain weighted groceries or bagged fruit, there’s a chance to claim a portion of a $45 million settlement. This resolves claims of overcharging by the retailer.

As part of this settlement, Walmart’s customers could receive up to $500. The allegations revolve around overpricing of packaged meat, poultry, pork, seafood, and bagged citrus.

If you’ve shopped at any of Walmart’s 4,615 U.S. stores between October 19, 2018, and January 19, 2024, you might qualify. You’re entitled to claim 2% of your purchase’s total cost if you have the receipt, capped at $500.

Even without a receipt, Walmart customers from the specified period can still file a claim, potentially receiving between $10 and $25 based on their declared purchases.

The class action, initiated in October 2022, argued that the prices listed for sold-by-weight goods surpassed their actual per-unit costs. This led to Walmart customers paying more than the lowest advertised in-store price for these items.

Walmart, however, has denied any wrongdoing or liability in this matter, as indicated in the settlement agreement filed with a federal court in Tampa, Fla., in November.

To be part of the settlement, customers must submit their claims by June 5. Final approval is pending, with a hearing scheduled for June 12. Those wishing to opt-out have until May 22 to do so.
