Mumbai Mourns Loss of Beloved Pani Puri Vendor to COVID-19; Community Rallies to Support Bereaved Family

In the heart of south Mumbai’s bustling Napean Sea Road, Bhagwati Yadav, affectionately dubbed “Bisleri Pani Puri Wala,” passed away due to COVID-19, leaving behind a legacy of flavorful snacks and cherished memories.

For nearly five decades, Mr. Yadav graced the streets with his delectable pani puris, earning the endearing moniker for his use of bottled water in crafting the beloved street food.

“While serving ‘Bisleri’ pani puri for 46 years, Yadavji prioritized our well-being, always going the extra mile by offering ‘Ek extra puri,'” a heartfelt tribute on the crowdfunding platform Ketto expressed.

The local community sprung into action, initiating a fundraising campaign with the goal of raising ₹ five lakh within 42 days to support Yadav’s grieving family. Within a mere two days, the initiative has garnered over ₹ two lakh in contributions, a testament to the profound impact Yadav had on his community.

“As the sole breadwinner of his household, we felt compelled to assist his family. Without hesitation, we launched an appeal on a crowdfunding platform, and the response has been overwhelming,” shared Yash Baid, a concerned resident of Napean Sea Road.

Yadav’s unwavering commitment to hygiene and authenticity distinguished him among his peers, leaving an indelible mark on his patrons.

“His pani puris were unparalleled in taste. While others rely on modern appliances, he meticulously prepared everything by hand,” reminisced one of Yadav’s loyal customers.

“His demeanor was as delightful as his snacks. I’ve savored his pani puris since childhood, and even now, at 25, the flavor remains unchanged,” echoed another loyal patron.

Bhagwati Yadav’s daughter, currently residing with her mother in their hometown of Azamgarh, Uttar Pradesh, expressed gratitude for the outpouring of support from her father’s clientele.

“Numerous customers have extended their generosity to us, particularly Girish Agarwal, whose initiative on the crowdfunding platform has been a lifeline for our family,” she expressed, overwhelmed by the community’s love for her late father.
