Marking a milestone in her career journey, Deepika Padukone commemorates the 9th anniversary of the acclaimed film “Cocktail,” reflecting on her portrayal of the dynamic character, Veronica.

Nine years have swiftly passed since the captivating presence of Veronica graced the screens alongside Saif Ali Khan in “Cocktail,” a film that continues to linger in the hearts of many. As the anniversary of the movie unfolds today, Deepika delves into the significance of her role, revealing its profound impact on both her professional trajectory and personal growth.

Sharing insights with Hindustan Times, Deepika expressed, “I’ve always believed that while you put a little part of yourself in every character you play, you also carry a part of that character with you forever. And therefore, Veronica will always be one of the most special characters I’ve played on screen; one that changed a lot for me professionally and impacted me personally.”

She acknowledged the pivotal role of Veronica in shaping her career, affirming, “Yes. I would like to believe so! If a character turned out to be so successful and resonated with millions, then obviously there was something about that character that the audiences empathized with.”

Deepika unveiled that her journey with “Cocktail” initially began with the script reading for Meera (portrayed by Diana Penty), but fate steered her towards Veronica’s compelling narrative, a decision backed by the conviction of director Imtiaz Ali.

The evocative track “Angreji Beat,” encapsulating various facets of Veronica’s journey, struck a chord with audiences, resonating long after the credits rolled. Penned and composed by Yo Yo Honey Singh, the song added depth to Veronica’s portrayal, enhancing the film’s allure.

Directed by Homi Adajania and penned by Imtiaz Ali, “Cocktail” remains a timeless gem in cinematic history, starring Saif Ali Khan, Diana Penty, and Deepika Padukone. Released on July 13, 2012, the film continues to enchant audiences with its timeless melodies, including the ever-popular “Tumhi Ho Bandhu” and “Angreji Beat.”
