Unraveling Chaos: The Sara Evans-Jay Barker Saga

In a twist of events, Sara Evans initiated divorce proceedings just before Jay Barker allegedly engaged in a reckless attempt to harm her.

Expressing gratitude, Barker acknowledged the overwhelming support he received from friends, allies, and many within the Alabama community amidst the unfolding events.

According to court documents accessible via Scoop Nashville, country artist Sara Evans officially filed for divorce from Jay Barker, a former Alabama football quarterback, in August.

Barker found himself in police custody on Saturday after purportedly attempting to strike Evans and another individual with a vehicle.

The 49-year-old, identified in records as Harry Jerome Barker, was confined to Davidson County Jail around 4:10 a.m., charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. He was released later the same day after posting a $10,000 bond, shortly before 7:30 p.m.

As per regulations for domestic incidents, Barker underwent a mandatory 12-hour cooling-off period before his release.

Despite multiple attempts, authorities in Nashville and Davidson County remained unreachable for comment.

According to the divorce filing dated August 23, 2021, Evans cited irreconcilable differences and “inappropriate marital conduct” as grounds for dissolution. Barker, as noted, had been residing in Homewood for the preceding three months.

The couple, married for 12 years with no offspring, had previously agreed to maintain the privacy of their divorce terms, as reported by Scoop Nashville.

In a subsequent statement shared on his radio show’s Instagram account, Barker expressed deep appreciation for the outpouring of support while emphasizing the complexity of their circumstances beyond sensational headlines.

Furthermore, Barker affirmed his love for his family and urged respect for their privacy.

This message followed an earlier post where Barker referenced biblical verses and thanked well-wishers for their prayers and enduring love.

Court documents detail Barker’s alleged attempt to target two individuals leaving a gathering around 1:30 a.m. on Saturday. Despite narrowly missing, Barker’s actions prompted police involvement, ultimately leading to his apprehension.

The affidavit notes that Barker and the victim are currently separated and residing apart, with probable cause to believe Barker unlawfully attempted to strike the victim with his vehicle.

A court appearance is scheduled for March 22 regarding the arrest, while the status of the divorce proceedings remains uncertain as of Sunday morning.
