Is QB Chris Parson Ready to Take the Field for Mississippi State Football? Here’s Zach Arnett’s Insight

The question arises: Could Chris Parson be the starting quarterback for Mississippi State football in their upcoming match against Kentucky? Coach Zach Arnett hints at the possibility of the freshman QB.

Amidst starting quarterback Will Rogers nursing a shoulder injury and backup Mike Wright grappling with performance issues in his recent outings, the notion of fielding freshman Chris Parson this Saturday (6:30 p.m., SEC Network) against Kentucky (5-3, 2-3 SEC) arises.

Coach Zach Arnett acknowledges the possibility.

“It’s early in the week, and I prefer not to divulge all the intricacies of our game plan,” Arnett commented.

Rogers sustained his injury during the fourth quarter of a victory against Western Michigan on Oct. 7. Following a bye week, Wright made his debut as a starter in a narrow 7-3 win against Arkansas on Oct. 21. In the subsequent game, Wright helmed the team in a 27-13 loss against Auburn.

Wright’s performance in his two starts includes completing 24 of 44 passes for 246 yards, registering two touchdowns, two interceptions, and accumulating 123 rushing yards. He joined MSU (4-4, 1-4) in the offseason after featuring in 11 games over three seasons at Vanderbilt.

Parson, a standout early enrollee from Ravenwood High School in Brentwood, Tennessee, arrived at MSU as a highly-touted four-star prospect. He played a pivotal role in maintaining cohesion within MSU’s recruiting class following the passing of coach Mike Leach in December.

Rogers’ impressive streak of 38 consecutive starts concluded when he was sidelined against the Razorbacks. He stands as the third-highest passing yardage achiever among all-time SEC quarterbacks, boasting 11,964 passing yards.
