Raffensperger’s Stand: Debunking Voter Suppression Claims in Georgia

In a bold statement, Raffensperger dismissed accusations of ‘Suppression.’

On March 26th, 2021, Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger debunked claims of voter suppression, asserting, “Democrats and national media are pushing partisan agendas, not truths.” He emphasized that Governor Brian Kemp’s recent signing of the bill into law was met with undue criticism. “The cries of ‘voter suppression’ from those on the left ring hollow,” Raffensperger emphasized.

Unwavering in his stance, Raffensperger stated, “I speak truth, regardless of party lines. I’ve faced backlash within my own ranks for debunking the myth of systematic voter fraud in Georgia, and I won’t falter now.”

Addressing misreporting, Raffensperger criticized The New York Times for falsely claiming Georgia “enacted restrictive voting laws” and CNN for sensationalizing Georgia’s “voting access suppression.” He also condemned Stacey Abrams’ characterization of the law as ‘Jim Crow 2.0’ as absurd and offensive.

Asserting the inaccuracies of such narratives, Raffensperger remarked, “These portrayals are not only lazy and biased but also devoid of factual basis.”

Highlighting the benefits of the new law, Raffensperger emphasized its focus on security measures, increased voting access, and building upon past improvements. He defended the requirement of state ID for absentee ballots, citing its successful implementation in previous elections.

Dispelling fears of voter suppression, Raffensperger pointed to past instances where photo ID for in-person voting did not hinder registration or turnout. He expressed confidence that future elections would vindicate the law’s efficacy, though he doubted acknowledgment of this from critics and the media.

Asserting his commitment to fairness and equality under the law, Raffensperger concluded, “As a conservative Republican, I’ve shown I’m willing to endure political fallout to uphold the rights of all Georgians.”
