SEA Games: Aries Toledo Misses Third Consecutive Win, Grabs Silver in Decathlon

MANILA, Philippines — Aries Toledo’s quest for a third consecutive victory in the men’s decathlon ended with a silver medal at the 31st Southeast Asian Games held on Sunday at the My Dinh National Stadium in Hanoi, Vietnam.

Toledo, who clinched gold in both the 2017 and 2019 SEA Games, surrendered his title to Thailand’s Suttisak Singkhon.

Singkhon emerged as the new decathlon champion, amassing 7,603 points, surpassing the Filipino’s 7,469 points.

This marks Toledo’s highest placement in the last three biennial meets, eclipsing his previous scores of 7,433 points in the 2017 Kuala Lumpur Games and 7,033 in 2019. Despite his best effort, it was only enough to secure the silver.

His fellow countryman, Janry Ubas, secured the bronze medal with 6,977 points, marking his second consecutive third-place finish in the event.

Ubas also clinched a silver medal in the men’s long jump, achieving a remarkable leap of 7.73 meters.
