Discover Delaware: Unveiling Artistry Along the Discoveries Trail

Embark on an artistic journey through Delaware with a trail designed to captivate both locals and visitors alike. This innovative Instagram-friendly driving route, known as the Discoveries Trail, unveils nine unique stops across the state, from the vibrant streets of Wilmington to the serene shores of Bethany Beach.

Picture this: gliding along the Mispillion River on a stand-up paddleboard, basking in the golden glow of sunflowers from the bed of a pickup truck, and wandering through a whimsical cascade of azaleas. These are just a few of the enchanting experiences awaiting those who follow the Delaware Discoveries Trail.

Conceived by the Delaware Tourism Office as its fifth trail endeavor, this initiative features interactive artworks strategically placed in locations abundant with open space. From sculpture gardens to wildlife refuges, each stop offers a safe and immersive encounter with art, away from crowds.

Inspired by Kelsey Montague’s iconic butterfly wings in Nashville, the trail’s murals celebrate Delaware’s essence. Local artists, including Natalia Ciriaco from Newark, infused their designs with state symbols and landmarks, inviting trailblazers to become part of the scenery.

Spanning approximately 100 miles from Wilmington to Bethany Beach, this trail promises a day filled with exploration and creativity. As an incentive to visit multiple sites, the tourism office rewards participants with a painting kit upon submitting photos of four murals, fostering a sense of community among trail enthusiasts.

So, whether you’re admiring Leah Beach’s vibrant dandelion at Hagley Museum or posing as a peacock at the Delaware Art Museum, the Discoveries Trail invites you to embark on a visual odyssey through the heart of the First State.
