Remembering Ian Gelder: A Tribute to a Talented Actor and Resilient Spirit

Renowned for his portrayal of Kevan Lannister in the acclaimed series Game of Thrones, Ian Gelder has passed away at the age of 74.

Gelder, a distinguished British actor, graced screens for decades, showcasing his talent in various productions such as Torchwood, His Dark Materials, Doctor Who, Snatch, and The Bill.

His demise, announced by his husband and fellow actor Ben Daniels on Instagram, comes five months after he was diagnosed with bile duct cancer.

In a heartfelt tribute, Daniels described Gelder as not only a remarkable actor but also a pillar of strength throughout their three-decade-long partnership. He commended Gelder’s resilience in facing his illness and expressed gratitude for the unwavering support Gelder provided.

Remembered for his kindness and generosity, Gelder’s presence left a lasting impact on all those he encountered both personally and professionally.

Having portrayed Kevan Lannister across five seasons of Game of Thrones, Gelder’s talent continued to shine in his recent appearance on the BBC One series Father Brown earlier this year.

Bile duct cancer, the illness Gelder battled, affects the intricate network of tubes connecting vital organs in the digestive system, including the liver and gall bladder.

  • Persistent itchiness of the skin.
  • Changes in urine color to a darker shade and lighter stools than usual.
  • Unexplained weight loss or loss of appetite.
  • General feelings of malaise or fatigue.
  • Elevated body temperature or experiencing feverish sensations.
  • Nausea or vomiting.
  • Abdominal discomfort.
