In a groundbreaking twist at the IPL Auction 2024, Mitchell Starc emerges as the priciest player ever, shattering Pat Cummins’ previous record and securing a lucrative deal with KKR for an astounding Rs 24.75 crore.

IPL Auction 2024: Setting a new benchmark, Starc commenced the bidding war with a modest starting point of Rs 2.00 crore, ultimately being clinched by the Kolkata Knight Riders at an unprecedented value.

IPL Auction 2024: Following the historic acquisition of Australian cricket luminary Pat Cummins as the costliest IPL player, the spotlight swiftly shifted to his compatriot Mitchell Starc. In a fierce auction battle between the Kolkata Knight Riders and Gujarat Titans, Starc’s final price tag soared to an extraordinary Rs 24.75 crore. Launching from a base value of Rs 2.00 crore, Starc found himself under the banner of the Kolkata Knight Riders, securing a record-breaking deal.

Previously, Cummins, the World Cup-winning skipper, and Starc’s teammate claimed the title of the IPL’s most expensive player by joining Sunrisers Hyderabad in the ongoing IPL Auction on December 19. Starc, marking his return to the IPL after an eight-year hiatus, had last graced the tournament with Royal Challengers Bangalore in 2015. Despite being acquired by KKR in 2018, he withdrew from the competition due to injury concerns.

Cummins surpassed the valuation set by English player Sam Curran in the 2023 IPL Auction, where he was acquired by the Punjab Kings for a substantial Rs 18.50 crore. However, the spotlight has now shifted to Starc, who holds the distinction of being the costliest player in IPL history.

It’s worth noting that Yuvraj Singh retains the record for the priciest Indian player, having commanded a fee of Rs 16 crore when he was acquired by the Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals) in 2015. The ongoing auction unfolds at the Coca-Cola Arena in Dubai.
